I've also added five more recent games, which I haven't benchmarked on six of the older GPUs. For more modest graphics cards, the test system would be overkill, but I want to ensure high-end GPUs like the 2080 Ti are able to reach their performance potential as much as possible.įor this review, I've got the 12 games used in previous reviews, with results for all 25 GPUs that I've benchmarked.

Note that I haven't had time to retest every GPU with the latest drivers currently available (that's several weeks of benchmarking, depending on the number of cards and games), but I wouldn't expect more than a 5 percent shift in performance, and often less than that. The new games were tested with the latest drivers available at the time, while the RTX 2060 uses Nvidia's 417.54 drivers that were provided ahead of the product launch.

Which brings us to the real reason for being here: the benchmarks and performance. I'll have both the stock and overclocked results in the charts.

I didn't spend a ton of time trying to find a maximum stable VRAM overclock, but adding 750MHz to the base clock (15.5 GT/s final speed) wasn't a problem. The GDDR6 on the other hand has plenty of headroom. Generally speaking, like the other RTX cards, you're looking at a stable clockspeed of around 2000MHz, give or take. I was able to add just 130MHz to the GPU core and still complete all the benchmarks in my test suite, while an extra 150MHz caused some games to crash. That's great for 'stock' performance, but it does mean overclocking is going to be relatively limited. Most games I tested saw clockspeeds well in excess of 1800MHz, with 1850MHz being typical. Instead of being the typical GPU clock you're likely to see, I've found the boost clock is more often the minimum speed you'll see (as long as you're not running in a cramped ITX enclosure). One thing to keep in mind is that Nvidia's published boost clocks are actually quite conservative in many instances. The RTX 2060 FE also uses the same basic design as the 2070, including a single 8-pin power connector and dual fans. Naturally, factory overclocked models will also exist. Nvidia shipped me an RTX 2060 Founders Edition, which will be priced at $349, and unlike the other RTX Founders Editions, 1680MHz will be the reference boost clock for all RTX 2060 cards. But to put that in perspective, the drop from the RTX 2070 to the RTX 2060 is more like the difference between the GTX 1070 Ti and GTX 1070, rather than the 10. There are 30 SMs instead of 36, and 6GB of GDDR6 instead of 8GB. In our real world laptop-tests the power draw of the whole systems running The Witcher 3 shows that the RTX 2060 slots in slightly below the Max-Q Variants and slightly above the GTX 1660 Ti mobile (as expected).$349 gets you basically everything that's in the $4, just a bit less of each. The power consumption is rated at 80 - 90 Watt TGP by Nvidia and therefore similar to the Max-Q variants of the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080. However, there is not much headroom to activate the taxing raytracing features in most games. For demanding games of 2019, the RTX 2060 is most suited for full HD (1080p) and high / ultra settings. The mobile GTX 1660 Ti is only a few percent behind in our gaming benhcmarks, but offers no raytracing features built in the GPU. The gaming performance of the mobile RTX 2060 is similar to an old Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (Desktop) and clearly behind the desktop RTX 2060. The RTX 2060 is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0). NVIDIA manufacturers the Turing TU106 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process and includes features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT), which should combine to create more realistic lighting effects than older GPUs based on the company's Pascal architecture (if the games supports it). It is based on the desktop RTX 2060 chip but at reduced GPU clock rates (-30%) and reduces power consumption (80 - 90 Watt TGP versus 160 Watt for the desktop version).
